The schemes are evolving, and so must our countermeasures.
The Scam Scheme: How Does It Work
This scheme isn’t new. We found a lot of info about Pig Butchering or even organizations that help the victims recover money after Job and task Scams. In many cases—still one meaning—these kinds of schemes work through fake job advertisements or cold approaches, posing as employees for people looking for a new job or to earn some extra money.
Imagine the allure of a perfect job—flexible hours, easy tasks, generous pay or commision. But behind this facade lies a chilling reality.
How it works:
- The Hook: Scammers target job seekers through ads, emails, and messages on platforms like WhatsApp, Indeed, and Linkedin, promising quick earnings for simple tasks.
- Trust Building: Initial payments for minor tasks create a false sense of security.
- The Trap: Victims are urged to pay a “refundable” fee for access to higher-paying tasks. The scammers then vanish, taking the money with them.

Remember, any legitimate company has a few steps of the interview.
The first one would be a video call with HR, the next one is a video call with the HR and the manager of the department to qualify your professionalism and to check the compatibility. These steps may vary depending on the company and industry, some steps may also include test tasks, technical interviews, etc.
But the main point is simple: the people who are reaching out to you with a job offer that will require only 1 hour a day of your time with provided “training” – it’s a scam. Especially without a face-to-face interview. Let’s get into more detail.

- Then silently stealing your money;
Recently, it even took a new wave.
They are reaching out not only to people who are seeking additional income or a new job but also to business owners, struggling with promoting their business, offering “free services” to help them.
So there are different ways scammers can reach out to you to put you on the hook.
