In this case, the website was penalized by the August 2023 Core Update* and lost 80-90% of its traffic very quickly, requiring a Google penalty recovery process to regain lost positions.

Reminder! The SEO channel is extremely risky.

Core updates involve large changes to Google’s algorithm aimed at improving results. They’re generally focused on E-E-A-T: Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness. These updates can cause significant shifts in rankings. This update was completed on September 7th.

If you didn’t engage in any “black hat” SEO, then you have a good chance to recover the positions and traffic you had before.

There’s no magic involved. Usually, you need to fix the technical and content issues that were present before the Google Update, which stalled growth, and continue working on technical SEO, structure, backlinks, and content for the project.

What about timing? Sometimes it takes 3-6 months to start Google penalty recovery. In other cases, it may take 1-2 years.

Let’s see what happens after the next Core Update this year!

Stay tuned.
